There’s a special day every year when we come together to recognize a joyous experience called Pilates. The first Saturday of May is Pilates Day, brought to us by Pilates Method Alliance, in order to celebrate this exceptional exercise that has transformed bodies and minds throughout the world for the decades.
What is Pilates Day?
“Pilates Day is an annual, international, community event celebrated on the first Saturday of May every year. The Pilates Day mission is to foster the public’s appreciation and awareness of the Pilates Method through a network of varied, innovative, and high quality grassroots Pilates events accessible and affordable for all.”
How to celebrate Pilates Day
- Invite a friend to Pilates class so they can experience what Pilates bliss feels like. Work on the mat, Cadillac, reformer and Pilates Chair.
- Take part in a Pilates Day event and connect with like-minded people, meet new friends, and learn more about Pilates.
- If you’ve been taking Pilates for a while, put your body to the test by exploring a new exercise to see how Pilates has improved your strength, flexibility and balance. Try yoga, slackline or barre class.
- Gift Pilates grip socks to your friends and family so they are geared up and ready to try Pilates at the studio or at home (we love Pilates Anytime for at-home videos)
- Watch the documentary film A Movement of Movement.
- Pick up a book on Pilates and expand your knowledge of this transformational practice – from the history to anatomy. Check out Return to Life by Joseph Pilates.
- Teach a child about breath and control.
- Pay attention to your core. Notice how everything you do involves the core and how much easier (and less painful) it is to move when it is engaged.
- Share your Pilates bliss with the world. Snap a picture of your post-Pilates class bliss and tag it #pilatesbliss and #pilatesday2016.
- Visit pilatesday.org to learn more about the Day and all of the events taking place to share this thing we love called Pilates.
